The foliage become edged with a deeper pink colour in autumn and the cream areas turn a vibrant scarlet before falling. It produces an abundance of tiny red flowers in spring, and red, winged fruits in late summer.
Compact and upright in habit, the Butterfly Japanese Maple is ideal for container growing or to be used as a feature tree in smaller gardens. It will reach approximately 2.5 × 2 metres in 20 years (around 1 × 0.6 metres in 10 years). Similar to other Japanese Maples, it prefers a sunny or partially shaded spot with moist, well-drained soil
