Fagus sylvatica 'Black Swan' Tree

Fagus sylvatica 'Black Swan' Tree

Fagus sylvatica 'Black Swan' boasts dark purple, almost black, foliage, darker than other varieties of Purple Beech tree and has a magnificent cascading habit. In spring, new leaves appear copper-coloured at first blush, but quickly adopt various shades of purple until summer when the leaves completely darken to purplish black.

It is slow growing but ultimately will form an elegant weeping tree with a medium height and spread of 6 x 3 metres. The branches weep tightly to the main stem which is often a smooth, grey bark. Like other Beech, 'Black Swan' likes a well drained soil positioned in sun or partial shade.
