Magnolia 'George Henry Kern' Shrub
Magnolia 'George Henry Kern' is a beautiful compact shrub with pale pink, goblet shaped flowers. The prolific flowers, appearing in March and April, are some of the most long lasting of all magnolias and will remain on the tree well into summer. Attractive green deciduous leaves take on coppery colours in autumn.
Derived from crossing Magnolia stellata and Magnolia liliiflora, Magnolia 'George Henry Kern' inherits valued characteristics of both species. It is a hardy small shrub that will grow to a height and spread of 3.5 x 2 metres in 20 years. A sheltered position in sun or light shade will suit it, as will a moist but well-draining soil. 'George Henry Kern' holds the prestigious RHS Award of Garden Merit.
